 LYNDHURST HOUSE independent preparatory and pre-preparatory day-school for boys

 Sketch of Lyndhurst House School (Matthew Wright, 1998) Welcome to the Lyndhurst House Preparatory School web site!

Lyndhurst House Preparatory School is a non-denominational day school for boys aged up to thirteen.

Lyndhurst is a friendly and lively traditional boys' preparatory and pre-preparatory school, with its own special atmosphere and character. We have an excellent record of achievement at Common Entrance and Scholarship level, particularly with the major London public schools. We especially prize enthusiasm and commitment, displayed by both staff and boys. We aim to foster self-respect, self-confidence and a sense of responsibility.

Our purpose in welcoming you to this web site is two-fold, to provide:

  • an introduction to the School's activities, aims and ethos, for parents of prospective pupils;

  • a source of information for those already connected with the School, particularly parents and pupils. For current announcements, please see the Notice Board at the foot of this page.

The School's Ethos and Aims

We provide a full and rounded education throughout the years at Lyndhurst, up to the transfer to senior school at thirteen plus.

Lyndhurst House promotes the core values of decency, tolerance, understanding and sympathy; in all areas of school life, we provide opportunities for pupils to find fulfilment, enjoyment, and the chance to excel.

Lyndhurst is a warm, safe environment in which boys develop their talents and receive an excellent early education. The School prides itself on its results, and also on the breadth of its education and the individual attention that is given to each boy by the dedicated and experienced staff. Our new boys quickly feel at home, and there is a natural progression from the first school to the larger secondary-school at thirteen.

In addition, we aim to:

 *  attain high standards in every area of endeavour;

 *  provide a full and rounded experience of education to each individual boy;

 *  be flexible and responsive to individual needs;

 *  promote the commonly held standards of discipline, and self-discipline, as part of training for life;

 *  offer parents and child a choice of schools to which to transfer at thirteen, to assist in the making of that choice, and to prepare each boy in an appropriate manner according to his talents, abilities and inclinations;

 * do all this within a firm framework, but in a relaxed atmosphere.

Religion

Our school is non-denominational but not secular. Children from all faiths and backgrounds are welcome.

"Religious Studies" is a Common Entrance subject. It forms part of the curriculum in the School and is taught as an academic subject.
